Equal parts gin, Campari, sweet vermouth. Three ingredients, no hiding. The bitter-sweet balance is the whole point — Campari does the heavy lifting, gin keeps it dry, vermouth rounds the edges. Count Negroni ordered it in Florence in 1919 and nobody has improved the formula since.
Ingredients
1 30 ml London dry gin
2 30 ml Campari
3 30 ml Sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica or similar)
4 1 strip Orange peel
Method
01
Fill a mixing glass with ice. Pour in equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth.
02
Stir for 30 seconds. Stirring, not shaking — the Negroni stays silky when you stir.
03
Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
04
Garnish with a strip of orange peel — express the oils over the surface first, then drop it in.
