Tamasha – Photos by Abhishek Khedekar
A Tamasha family's everyday life, caught between fact and fiction.
Photographer Abhishek Khedekar has built something quietly compelling with this show. Tamasha is a docu-fiction photographic project that follows a Tamasha family through their everyday realities — the performance, the domesticity, the in-between moments that rarely get documented. The show is at the Dilip Piramal Art Gallery at NCPA, and runs from noon to 8 PM, which makes it an easy addition to a Saturday afternoon at Nariman Point.
Tamasha as a folk performance tradition carries so much — history, gender, labour, spectacle — and Khedekar's approach of blurring documentary with fiction opens up the images rather than flattening them into reportage. If you go in with a little patience, these photographs give a lot back.
