The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration uncovered and stopped an interstate expired food relabeling operation in Bhiwandi, Thane district, on June 29, 2026. Raids across establishments in the town led to the seizure of illegal food stock worth over ₹52 lakh.

Operators were erasing original expiry dates with chemicals, pasting counterfeit manufacturing stickers, and reselling damaged goods at artificially low prices. A warehouse in Saravali had its food safety licence suspended after authorities found 1.5 tonnes of unbilled, expired items worth ₹1.67 lakh on the premises.
