Kolhapur Eateries Hike Prices Up to 20%
A Rs 993 jump in commercial LPG rates hits small restaurant owners hard
Restaurant owners in Kolhapur have begun raising food prices by up to 20%, following a steep hike in commercial LPG cylinder rates, according to The Times of India. A 19kg commercial cylinder now costs Rs 3,031, up Rs 993.
The squeeze is visible at the ground level. At Akshay Hukerri's Veluvan hotel in Ruikar Colony, thalipeeth has gone from Rs 80 to Rs 100 per plate, and special tea from Rs 25 to Rs 30. Thali joint owner Popat Asbe plans to revise his thali from Rs 120 to Rs 125. Sachin Shanbag, president of the Kolhapur Hotel Owners' Association, says the hospitality sector is under severe strain, caught between rising fuel costs and customer resistance to higher prices.

Small joints running on thin margins have the least room to absorb this. Aamcha khaach wadhla, customers baghtat.
