Maharashtra FDA Drops Major Food Safety Order
13+ licenses suspended within two weeks of new compliance mandate
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration issued a sweeping food safety compliance order on June 24, 2026, under the 'Safe Food, Healthy Maharashtra' campaign. The order covers hotels, restaurants, dhabas, cloud kitchens, and caterers across the state.
Mandates include providing safe drinking water free of charge, enforcing FSSAI's RUCO initiative for used cooking oil, and requiring all food-handling staff to complete FoSTaC training with regular medical checks. Within two weeks, inspections in Mumbai and Pune led to over 13 license suspensions.

Violators face imprisonment, hefty fines, and license cancellation. Ek number, the FDA isn't bluffing this time.
