Maharashtra FDA Bans Newspaper Food Wrapping
New statewide order targets hotels, dhabas, cloud kitchens, and delivery platforms
Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration issued a comprehensive food safety compliance order on June 24, 2026, banning the serving of food in newspapers or any printed paper across the state.
The order, part of the Safe Food, Healthy Maharashtra campaign, applies to hotels, restaurants, dhabas, cloud kitchens, caterers, and online food delivery platforms. Mandatory directives include valid FSSAI licenses, regular staff medical checks, FoSTaC hygiene training, and compliance with FSSAI's RUCO initiative on repurposing used cooking oil.
The state has warned that businesses compromising public health face penalties including imprisonment and license cancellation. Bas, ata enough excuses.
