Kolkata Restaurants Hiking Prices 10% From June

Rising LPG and ingredient costs are squeezing margins city-wide

Kolkata restaurants will raise menu prices by 5% to 10% starting June, as owners cite a compounding squeeze on operating costs.

Commercial LPG prices have jumped to Rs 3,200 per cylinder, a 40% hike, according to Sudesh Poddar, president of the Hotel and Restaurants' Association of Eastern India. That pain is compounded by rising prices of chicken, fish, paneer, cream, and cooking oil. Poddar described the last two to three months as financially taxing for the city's restaurant trade.

Bhaad mein gaya budget, diners who were hoping post-summer footfall would ease the bill shock are in for a rough few months. No rollback is in sight until input costs stabilize.
