FSSAI Scraps License Renewals for Food Businesses
Perpetual validity and simplified street vendor registration begin April 2026
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has approved major reforms that will give food business licenses perpetual validity starting April 1, 2026, eliminating the need for periodic renewals.
The 2026 Amendment Regulations also automatically register street food vendors who are already registered with municipal corporations, cutting red tape for Mumbai's sprawling street food ecosystem. The changes aim to reduce compliance costs and paperwork burden for operators nationwide.

For Mumbai's food businesses, from Mohammed Ali Road hawkers to restaurant chains, this means significant administrative relief and cost savings.
