Bombay HC Demands FDA Canteen Inspection Records

State-run food facilities face scrutiny as court sets July 31 deadline

Culture Maharashtra FDABombay High CourtFSSAI

The Bombay High Court on July 29, 2026, directed the Maharashtra government to submit details of FDA inspections conducted at canteens and food establishments run by government, semi-government institutions, and statutory authorities.

Government pleader Neha Bhide told the court that inspection details across Maharashtra, including facilities yet to be inspected, would be filed by July 31, 2026. The push is part of a broader crackdown led by Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe against food operators flouting safety standards.

The court's scrutiny stems from a petition challenging the suspension of an FSSAI license for alleged violations. With a hard deadline now on record, sarkari canteens that have long operated under the radar are about to get a closer look.
