Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration issued a comprehensive food safety order on June 24, 2026, requiring all food establishments to provide safe drinking water free of cost to customers.

The directive covers restaurants, street food vendors, bakeries, and online food delivery platforms across the state. It also bans serving food wrapped in newspapers or non-food-grade materials, citing harmful chemicals in printing ink.

FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe confirmed year-long supervision and inspections will enforce compliance. Paani free milega, but only if the state follows through.
