Pune FDA Orders Cheese Analog Disclosure at Eateries
Hotels, vendors must now tell you if it's not real cheese
Pune's Food and Drug Administration has directed all restaurants, hotels, caterers, and fast food vendors to clearly disclose when cheese analog is used in food items, on bills, menu cards, and electronic display boards.
Cheese analog is made from edible oils, starch, and other ingredients, not milk, making it a cheaper substitute that consumers are often unaware they're eating. The move is backed by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which mandates accurate ingredient disclosure.
Violators, manufacturers, suppliers, or food business operators, face strict action under the same Act. Savdhaan, pizza lovers.
