The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation brought homemade food to every corner of the city on May 11 and 12, 2026, with Valvan Mahotsav 2026-Sugandh Unhalyacha, a summer food festival held simultaneously at all municipal ward offices across Mumbai.

The festival was designed to promote women's empowerment and provide a formal platform for local women's self-help groups to sell homemade food products. Ward-level rollouts like this give SHG vendors city-backed visibility they rarely get otherwise.

No word yet on whether the mahotsav becomes an annual fixture, but running it across every ward at once is a bold, city-scale bet on ghar ka khana.
