Nashik's 'Grape Day' Gets Government Patent
A farmer-led Mahashivratri tradition just got official recognition from India
Nashik's 'Grape Day' initiative, celebrated annually on Mahashivratri, has received patent recognition from the Government of India, giving the campaign formal legal standing.
The initiative is organised by the Yash Draksha Nagari Farmer Producer Company from Tasgaon, Sangli district, and has been running for four years. The concept is straightforward: offer grapes to Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri, place them on the Shivling, and distribute them as prasad. A deliberate strategy to link grape consumption with religious tradition, boosting demand for the region's farmers.

The patent locks in this concept as theirs. For Maharashtra's grape belt, jai ho, this is both cultural branding and farmer advocacy in one move.
