Matunga Fermented Food Walk Hits King's Circle
One evening, one neighbourhood, decades of South Indian migration on a plate
Immersive Trails-Global is hosting a fermented food walk in Matunga on July 30, 2026, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, starting at Anand Bhavan, King's Circle. The walk is titled 'Nodhithal.'
The route hops through South Indian cafes, restaurants, and one of the oldest chaat stores in the area. Beyond the food, the walk frames fermentation as a lens into South Indian migration, identity, and cultural retention in Matunga, touching on labour, caste, and class hierarchies embedded in the neighbourhood's food history.

Matunga has long been considered Mumbai's South Indian heartland. Bas ek shaam, this one looks worth blocking the calendar for.
