MTR's Karunadu Swada 2026 Opens at Jayamahal Palace
75 dishes, six regions, one stage, Karnataka's food heritage gets its moment
MTR's annual food and cultural festival Karunadu Swada 2026 was inaugurated on April 24, 2026, at Jayamahal Palace in Bengaluru.
This year's theme, "The Story Before the Recipe," puts indigenous ingredients and Karnataka's food heritage front and center. The festival spans six distinct regions - Uttara Karnataka, Kalyana Karnataka, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Hale Mysuru - with over 75 authentic dishes on offer. Idu swalpa serious vishaya: these are not reconstructed recipes but regional dishes tied to place and tradition.
The inauguration also featured a live musical performance of the "Sambar Song" by Vasu Dixit, turning a food festival into a full cultural statement. Karunadu Swada continues to be one of the city's more substantive annual efforts at documenting what Karnataka actually eats.
